International Indonesian Forum for Asian Studies
Asia Pacific International Research Forum

Since his early academic years he was fascinated by geographical places and cultures. With this in mind he explored parts of the Middle East and North Africa before turning to the East and South East Asia, with a strong interest in Indonesia. After the completion of his university foundation years in Australia, he was granted extension studies at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences at Gadjah Mada University. As part of this study programme he completed reports on the Badui in Java and the Kanayat’n in West Kalimantan. To further his academic endeavors, he completed his M Ed while teaching at the State University of Semarang. His thesis extended his research knowledge of the remote Mentawai community in West Sumatera. On his return to Australia he was awarded a doctoral scholarship to broaden his international studies' interest as part of a Murdoch University ARC research grant. His research carried out at Flinders University was to investigate the social capital capacity of the Kantu’, Taman and Iban Dayak communities, which took him to the heart of Borneo close to the Sarawak border. Besides his successfully completed thesis, which awarded him a PhD, several articles were published on his findings. During his doctoral studies, he was also part-time employed at the Australian National University in Canberra. As a founding member of the International Indonesian Forum for Asian Studies (www.iifas.info) he has co-organised with partner universities in Indonesia several conferences to promote the publication of research by young scholars. Currently he is associated with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the VUS language institute in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. His aim is as a member of the Asia Pacific International Research Forum (www.apirf.com), to create with hosting universities an opportunity for greater open academic interaction though conferences and workshops within the Asia Pacific region. This will provide greater understanding of the dynamics of social capital in cultural development and religious systems. He can be contacted at This email address is being protected from spambots.
